England learned on Monday night that their UEFA WOMEN'S EURO 2009™ final opponents will be Germany, winner of the last four editions, but manager Hope Powell believes her side can beat them to take their first major title.

Winless run
Germany defeated Norway 3-1 to reach Thursday's final at Helsinki's Olympic Stadium, where they will meet England, 2-1 extra-time victors against the Netherlands 24 hours earlier. England have met Germany 18 times and never won, though there were two goalless draws in 2007 in China, a friendly and then in the FIFA Women's World Cup group stage. That is the only game in a UEFA European Women's Championship or World Cup that Germany have failed to win since 1999.

Relishing challenge
Powell said: "Playing Germany will be very tough; they are the best team in Europe and rightly tournament favourites. But we will go into the game with confidence, and if we play our best football, we will have every chance. We will compete with them and winning tournaments like this means playing and beating the best team. We are here on merit and we are looking forward to the challenge that awaits us."

Tennis: Watch Fernando Gonzalez vs Rafael Nadal - ATP US Open 2009 Match Live Stream on September 10th

ATP US Open 2009 - Men's Singles (Quarter Final)
Fernando Gonzalez
vs
Rafael Nadal

Date: September 10th
Time: 23:00 (GMT)

Neither player can claim the US Open as their best Slam, but one of them will be in the semifinals.

Fernando Gonzalez and Rafael Nadal are two players that both know how to win a lot of tennis matches and they've been on a collision course before. Their most famous match took place in the quarterfinal of the 2007 Australian Open at a time when Fernando Gonzalez was blasting everyone off of the court. While he took Nadal out in that quarterfinal in straight sets, their biggest match to date, Gonzalez has failed to take even one set off of Nadal since......and there have been plenty of opportunities.

Nadal's record against Gonzalez is 6-3 straight up but the recent history is probably what is more important. Nadal has a 5 match winning streak going against Gonzalez and he, Nadal, has won 12 consecutive sets against the Chilean.

As far as recent success at the US Open goes, Nadal has a stronger resume in that department as well as he made the semifinals just last year. Gonzalez has been this deep at Flushing Meadows before, but he has failed to make the semis in New York as his quarterfinal loss in 2002, which was the tournament that introduced him to most tennis fans, is to date his best result there.

Nadal still hasn't beaten a top 10 player since coming back to the tour from injury but Gonzalez is just outside the top 10, sitting 11th on tour. Nadal's last match, a 4 set victory over Gael Monfils, speaks volumes to Nadal's ability right now, which, due to his injury, had been a big question mark in this Slam. While the first set against Monfils was a closely contested loss, Nadal cruised after that, breaking and holding to take down a match that for some reason felt closer than it ever was.

In a way it would be nice to see Gonzalez win because he's always been such a tough player. Also his strong years on tour are running out as he is at the age of 29. But Nadal looks good to continue his winning streak over Gonzalez and to advance to the semifinals, where you have to expect Del Potro to be waiting to pounce.

Stay away from Nadal in the US Open futures market as Del Potro is playing too well on hard court for even Nadal to handle, but go ahead and take him with Betfair at -300 (1/3) to beat Gonzalez.
