Alex Ferguson is gearing up for a Champions League revenge mission this season, and Euro champs Barcelona are firmly in his sights.

His Manchester United side may be starting their European odyssey with a tricky trip to Turkish side Besiktas on Tuesday, but it's Pep Guardiola's all-conquering Barca that Fergie is desperate to get to grips with.

Sir Alex wants to put right the failings he believes were there in the way his United side approached their 2-0 final defeat by Barcelona in Rome last May. And he is determined to prove Guardiola's much vaunted side are no better than his own Reds team.

Ferguson point blank refuses to discuss the mistakes he feels derailed United's chances of landing back-to-back Champions League titles.

The Galacticos are back from international duty and Real Madrid fans will be relieved to know that none of their stars picked up any injuries as they prepare to take on Espanyol at the brand new Cornella-El Prat.

Los Blancos coach, Manuel Pellegrini will be thankful to have a near full squad to choose from as he prepares the team for a visit to picturesque Switzerland to take on FC Zurich in the Champions League, a competition where they have not always made the best of starts in recent years.

The only key absence will be right-back, Sergio Ramos, who has made a full recovery from his Achilles tendon problem but he has been left out of the squad after Pellegrini decided not to risk him ahead of the clash against Zurich.

Fernando Gago, who only just returned to Spanish shores from South America today (Friday) has also been omitted, as has Rafael van der Vaart. The good news, though, is that long term injury casualties, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Mahamadou Diarra have both been included in the squad list.
