Seattle won its first piece of hardware: the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The Sounders, Major League Soccer’s newest club, defeated one of the league’s most storied teams, D.C. United, 2-1, on Wednesday. Freddy Montero and Roger Levesque scored for the expansion Sounders to give them the victory.
One of the oldest sporting competitions in the United States also remains one of the most obscure.
Welcome to Wednesday night’s final of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Robert F. Kennedy Stadium in Washington, where D.C. United will face the Seattle Sounders in an all-Major League Soccer final.
